چکیده

Fluorocarbon plasmas are widely used to chemically modify surfaces and deposit thin films. The deposition of mass selected fluorocarbon ions is useful for isolating the effects specific to polyatomic ions. In this study, the detailed chemical modifications that result from the deposition of beams of polyatomic fluorocarbon ions (C3F5 + and CF3 ) on polystyrene surfaces at experimental fluxes are identified using classical molecular dynamics simulations. These simulations elucidate how and why more efficient fluorination of the surface is achieved by CF3 + ion beam deposition, but C3F5 + ions are more efficient at growing fluorocarbon thin films. © 2004 American Institute of Physics. Effects of unique ion chemistry on thin-film growth by plasma-surface interactions.

Plasma processing is a standard industrial method for the modification of material surfaces and the deposition of thin films. Polyatomic ions and neutrals larger than a triatomic play a critical role in plasma-induced surface chemistry, especially in the deposition of polymeric films from fluorocarbon plasmas. In this paper, low energy CF3+ and C3F5+ ions are used to modify a polystyrene surfac...

Effect of Induced Dipole-Induced Dipole Potential and the Size of Colliding Particles on Ion-Quadrupolar Molecule Collision Rate Constants

Classical trajectory (Monte Carlo) calculation is used to calculate collision rate constants of ion-quadrupolar molecule interactions for the H¯+C2H2 system. The method presented here takes into account the effect of the induced dipole-induced dipole potential on ion-quadrupolar molecule collision rate constants. It is also assumed that the colliding particles have a d...

Water-vapor plasma-based surface activation for trichlorosilane modification of PMMA.

Separation rates and resolutions within capillary electrophoretic (CE) systems can be enhanced when surface zeta potentials are uniform with minimum deviations from ideal pluglike flow. Microfluidic CE devices based on poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) are being developed due to the optical clarity, availability, stability, and reproducible electroosmotic flow (EOF) rates displayed by this polym...

Surface Modification of Polymer Substrates for Biomedical Applications

While polymers are widely utilized materials in the biomedical industry, they are rarely used in an unmodified state. Some kind of a surface treatment is often necessary to achieve properties suitable for specific applications. There are multiple methods of surface treatment, each with their own pros and cons, such as plasma and laser treatment, UV lamp modification, etching, grafting, metalliz...

Fabrication of an Electrochemical Sensor Based on a New Nano-ion Imprinted Polymer for Highly Selective and Sensitive Determination of Molybdate

In this work a new chemically modified carbon paste electrode was constructed for accurate, simple, sensitive and selective determination of molybdenum (VI) ions. The results of modified electrode by an ion imprinted polymer were compared with those obtained with carbon paste electrode. The results showed the stripping peak currents had a dramatic increase at the modified electrode. Under the o...
